SYNOPSIS
In the Altarpiece of Avarice, Lust, and Death, men come and go, specks of dust stirred by the deep and untamed currents of primal instinct: hunger, sex, wealth, power, superstition, and soothsaying. In contrast, the constant presence and dominion of woman, creator-destroyer, irresistible force, blind nature, a mingled source of good and evil. Ulysses and La Traviata, reflected in the concave mirrors of Cat Alley, give rise to a knife sharpener and a bedchamberlain, give rise to the grotesque.
