SYNOPSIS

JARANDA is the name of a variety of pepper used to create the spice discovered by the Hieronymite monks, a spice that today represents the lifeblood of the La Vera region. This concept is the starting point for this contemporary dance piece that explores the stages of making Pimentón de la Vera (La Vera paprika). For years, the walls of the Monastery of Yuste protected the Hieronymite monks' best-kept secret: paprika, unique for its flavor and aroma. However, as nothing lasts forever, the recipe for its production process escaped the monastery walls and spread throughout the La Vera region.

This work explores the production process of Pimentón de la Vera (La Vera paprika) through the language of contemporary dance. It allows us to delve into its different stages of production, such as the cultivation methods and the smoke-drying process, so characteristic of this region. This dance piece aims to highlight the wisdom and tradition of the region, emphasizing the links between the sacred and the everyday, and bringing together the past, present, and future.
