SYNOPSIS
Karlik dance-theater and Morfeo Teatro, in collaboration with Gloria Muñoz, bring to the stage the universal classic COPPÉLIA, for the first time in a theatrical version and for family audiences, with music by Léo Delibes, premiered in 1870 at the Paris opera, a ballet inspired by the romantic tale "The Sandman" by Hoffman.
The story unfolds in the town square of a village where the intrepid Swanilda, her boyfriend Franz, and the craftsman Coppelius live. Coppelius resides in a mysterious house where he keeps his creations: life-sized automatons. His favorite piece is a young woman named Coppélia, and she is so lifelike that everyone who sees her sitting on the balcony believes she is a real girl.
The production embraces the avant-garde movements of the 20th century. The Bauhaus centenary celebrations and Oskar Schlemmer's Triadic Ballets are the aesthetic driving force behind this show, which aims to take risks, opting for a modernist language for a younger audience.
